Ode to a Milk Crate

One of the handiest and most versatile tools in our repertoire is the humble milk crate.

Some of its many uses include:

Storing and corraling stuff.

A seat.

A table.

A step stool.

A saw horse.

See what I mean?

What do you use milk crates for?

  1. Agreed. A veritable plethora of uses can be derived from a milk crate. I use them in all the ways you illustrated and for shelving (screwed to a wall or stacked).

  2. Dean and Cathy,
I've been watching your progress with great interest. You two have to be one of the hardest working couples I know. And the hard work is paying off. The house and location are beautiful!

  3. This reminds me of a Sesame Street segment (which I still watch sometimes and LOVE). I'm goingt to be thinking about what I use mild crates for. Thanks for posting!

  4. As you know, I have a building at the back of my property which has become my stained glass studio. I use many milk crates there for glass storage. They are very helpful in sorting colors, and they are stackable.
But, my best use over the years has been having them as laundry baskets. I have two tall cabinets in the bathroom (with the sink cabinet in the middle.) Each is divided with a small cabinet on the bottom.
A milk crate is just the right size to fit. So, I use two of them. One for dirty clothing, the other for towels.
Keep up the great work, Sunny
